Connie's top 10 Ways to "NOT GAIN WEIGHT" during the holiday season
1. Keep a liter water bottle on hand at all times! Hunger is often mistaken as thirst!
2. Keep a food journal to keep track of calories. Nibbling calories add up fast!
3. Fill up on steamed or fresh vegetables during the day to ward off hunger in the evenings. Better yet try juicing fresh vegetables!
4. If you drink alcohol, alternate with 8 oz. water with lemon. Lemon is a natural detox agent!
5. Eat a large salad made from vegetables and a low-fat, non-creamy, salad dressing before attending a dinner party. This will help stabilize blood sugar and reduce cravings!
6. Be sure to get as much exercise in as possible. Remember, calories in versus calories out is the KEY to not gaining weight!
7. Get plenty of rest and go to bed early when possible. Staying up late adds to late night munching!
8. Atleast twice a week try not to eat after 6:00 pm and not before 6:00 am. This will give your body twelve hours to cleanse itself!
9. Try to be "fully present" and use good listening skills when interacting with your friends and family. This will deepen your relationships and leave you filling warm and loved!
10. Enjoy and remember what Christmas represents and be thankful for all we have! Maybe make a list of what you are thankful for!
P.S. Consider kicking off the new year with a new you! Check out a natural and effective detox system. Make sure the cleanse system you choose cleanses the liver as well! The one that my clients have had the best results with is the True2life 30 day detox system. This is a 7 day detox followed by a 3 week nutrition plan. Does Milk Really do the body good?
Does it seem right that we are the only species that drinks another species milk? Our digestive systems are made to digest human milk. Cows milk has 3 times more protein and almost 4 times more calcium than human milk. It's perfectly suited for the development of a cow but a human? According to a "systems" model this is way out of proportion and when an excess of nutrients are present they need to be excreted. Since milk can cause a mucus effect in our systems an overabundance of heavy dairy products can cause a clogging effect and will block the excretion process which can result in the body trying to excrete it through our skin (acne), and mucous membranes (mucous/congestion). Other common problems with build-up are asthma, allergies, ear infections, pimples and overweight. I could go on and on so I will continue later in a part 2. A much better ( and tastier) option is almond milk!

Psyllium Fiber? What's that??
For those of you who are already taking psyllium husk-hurray for those! The rest of you should add it to your grocery list!
Psyllium fiber comes from the husk, which is the outside covering the seed of a plantago ovato plant, which is a grain. When added to a liquid substance (in a glass or in your body) Psyllium fiber turns into a gel that helps remove waste and some cholesterol.
I use Psyllium husk in my morning shakes to help thicken them. Increase your fiber uptake the natural way!
Connie's Energizing Morning Smoothie
1/2 cup of water
1 scoop MRM Natural Whey Protein
4 Big frozen strawberries
2 Tbsp. ground flax seed
1 cup frozen spinach
Cinnamon
3 tbsp. psyllium husk
1 scoop Green + 8000
Blend and enjoy the energy you will have throughout the day!

Treadmill Versus Elliptical Trainer for Energy Expenditure
Which is more efficient for overall health and weight-loss? A University of Nebraska study showed that energy expenditure was similar during treadmill and elliptical trainer at the same intensity. The net-net is that it does not matter what type of exercise you do as long as the intensity is the same. You can measure exercise intensity by the rate of exertion scale of 1-10. One being very light exercise being able to carry on a conversation easily and 10 being very high, unable to talk. Also, you can purchase a heart rate monitor.

Yes we can reverse the FAT GENE
Yes genetics does play a role in with our body composition, but he good news is exercise can cancel out the fat genes. A study out of the University of Maryland School of Medicine has revealed that physical activity, like power walking or weight training, can help to counteract the gene that causes people to gain weight!

Midnight Munchies
Who says you should not eat after 6pm??
If you are one of many of the fitness fanatics out there that lift weights, preform 30-60 minutes of cardiovascular training, and participate in many other types of exercise you may want to think twice about avoiding food after 6pm. The key is to make the right choices. If you are engaged in moderate to high levels of exercise your body may need fuel during the night to keep your metabolism going and to help your muscles recover from exercise. I am not a big fan of dairy but certain types of dairy such as low fat cottage cheese and low fat Greek yogurt could be great options for late night munchies. The protein is very high for exercise recovery plus it is high in tryptophan, which might help you sleep more soundly. Egg whites are also low in calorie and high in protein.
my "Yummy Yogurt" Recipe
6 oz. Fage 0% Greek Yogurt
1/4 cup frozen or fresh berries
1 tbsp of MSM Natural vanilla whey protein
Stevia (if you like it sweet!)
Follow me day by day through a Liver Detox
Ever wonder whats it's like to do a Liver and Body Detox?
Well, for those of you who are curious, you can follow me through the 30 day program. I was fortunate to be invited to a meeting with one of the founders of a new company called True2Life. I had done many cleanses before so I thought to myself what could possibly make this one any different? I was shocked to find out that most cleanse systems on the market to not cleanse the liver and are loaded will fillers and additives. Oops! By the end of the meeting I begged for a Liver Detox System to try since I never recommend products that I do not use or have not tried before. Also, I have another Fitness Competition coming up so what better way to start than to cleanse my system and rev my metabolism!
A few of my friends decided they wanted to cleanse with me. (it's always more fun when you have a support group).
Day 1
I woke up and took the digestive enzymes..This day there was no food after 2:00. Not so bad until I had to drink a liver prep drink and a liver cleanse drink that night! Hold your nose, use a straw, and go to bed! It's all worth it I kept telling myself.
Day 2
This is a no food day, except for 1 shake at lunch...I thought this would be a tough day but the digestive enzymes must have curbed my appetite. I sipped on a cleanse drink during the day which was quit a treat-ha!.. It took a lot of coaching but with support my friends and myself all made it through the tough day!
Day 3
I woke up and had 2 texts from my friends. They both said that they had a ton of energy, were not hungry, and felt amazing! I agreed. This day we were allowed 2 shakes and 1 meal..Now we were on easy street....
Days 4-6
These are the same as day 3, 2 shakes and a meal plus the enzymes of course. I have no cravings whatsoever, a ton of energy still, and feel so clean! I have also been able to continue exercising 45-60 minutes a day with no decrease in stamina. As far as my friends go, one lost 7 pounds already and the other lost 6...They are ecstatic to say the least...
This will be continued on day 7 or 8 which go back to non food days, but there are snacks options available. If we can make it through these to days we would have completed the first and hardest part of the cleanse system!!
